David Cavill (Toveri)
I began judging in 1972 and first judged Beardies in 1981. I have judged over one hundred classes of the breed. During the 1990s I took part in several Beardie Training days. It is a breed which has always greatly appealed to me.
I am passed for tickets for: Rottweilers, Border Collies, Belgian Shepherd Dogs (T, G ), Samoyeds, Alskan Malamutes, Norwegian Buhunds, Schipperkes, Keeshonds, Japanese Spitz, Japanese Akitas, Swedish Vallhunds, Finnish Spitz, Siberian Huskies, German Spitz (Klein), German Spitz (Mittel), Shiba Inu and Leonbergers and have invited to give tickets in Dobermanns in 2010 and Lhasa Apsos, Basenjis, Tibetan Terriers, Dalmatians and Shih Tzu in 2011

I am on B lists for: Saluki, Beagle, Chow, Elkhounds, Affenpinchers, Borzoi, Deerhounds
Kathleen Delaney (Arranbrae).
My first Beardie came from Francis Chapman in 1979 purely as a pet but she coaxed me along to a show and the rest as they say is history! My first bitch Blumberg Reynardine produced our first Arranbrae litter in 1983 by Potterdale Philosopher. We have bred or owned 9 Stud book qualifiers including 1 CC, 3 RCC, and 1 Junior Warrant winner.
My daughter Genna won KCJO Working Group Crufts 98 with A. Gift Wrapped, and his 2 sisters have both won the prestigious Top Brood Bitch Trophy.
I have judged 6 times, a total of 80 classes, the last being BCC Scotland 2003 and am judging later this year. Showing mainly in Sp Vintage the last few years with my now 15 year old lady I am now being shown up by our young 15 month old madam in the ring!
Karen Edwards (Roxilyn)
I have owned Beardies since 1982, my first being a Beagold Rambler son, Wildan Circus Ringmaster. Barney was a slate boy with a fabulous temperament and became my soulmate for 15 years. Barney used to ‘holiday’ with Tine Leonard (Blumberg) where I saw a beautiful brown boy & decided that one day, I too, would have a brown Beardie. Little did I know that 25years later I would be bringing home my 5th brown Beardie!
I began showing nearly 12 years ago with Roseollie Taffys Tiffin, a beautiful brown boy with the darkest of eyes. We learnt the ropes together & he did me proud gaining his stud book number many times.
I was persuaded to judge in 2004 and have judged 100 Beardies to date. I enjoy judging & take my appointments very seriously as I believe it is our judges who shape our breed, so if we are not true to the standard our beloved breed may change beyond all recognition.
I currently own 3 males, all with stud book numbers and 1 with 1CC & 2 RCC’s: 2 females, 1 with 1CC & 4RCC’s – the other is still a puppy & 5 Affenpinscher girls. I also judge Affenpinschers and have fulfilled all the criteria to award CC’s apart from the 7 year rule. I am judging their Club show in 2010 and would consider it an honour to judge at the BCC Open show in 2011
Paul Heller (Buckbean)
I have owned showed and bred Bearded Collies since 1972.
I have judged Beardies regularly at Open Show level since 1977.
I have also judged Rough Collies and OES at Open Show level.
Latest judging appointment 25/ 07/07 Thetford and Dist. C.S.
Mr Chris Hudson (Hisnhers)
We got our first true Beardie in 1991 having been introduced to the breed by a fantastic ‘neardie’ who owned us for, thankfully, many years previous. When I entered my first open show I came away with a 3rd place rosette out of 3 and was ‘hooked’, a feeling I will never forget and am mindful of for others.
Since then we have made up two Champions, both bitches, our home bred Ch. Hisnhers Diamond Lil JW SchM being best bitch at Crufts 2008, a repeat attained by our Ch. /Ir Ch. Barkly Prima Donna in 1999.
Of the 5 dogs we have owned, all have qualified for Stud Book status.
I am currently Chairman of the North of England Bearded Collie Club, I judged my first show in 1997 and to date have judged 233 beardies.
Mark James (Waterley)
I started showing OES some 35 years ago.
When I was 17 I went to work in the Netherlands for a very famous kennel – well known for OES, but also had Briards & Schapendoes, a Dutch herding dog. This was very good schooling for me in all aspects of pedigree dogs.
I lived in the Netherlands for over 10 years & took all their exams to become a judge of several breeds. During this time I had many OES & several Bouviers, one of which on my return to the UK became the first champion in the breed.
I was first passed by the Dutch KC to judge Bearded Collies at Championship level in 1985. This was also the year that I judged them for the first time in the UK at Open show level.
I have judged the breed at several Breed Club Ch shows in Europe & Scandinavia.
I discovered the delights of Tibetan Terriers by accident as a friend was breeding them along with her OES & had one female that was a lot of trouble – you guessed it, I ended up with her!
This breed is the only one I have at home. I am very involved with the Breed Club, being its Chairman for several years and have been involved with all aspects of Club work. We recently ran a very successful World congress on the breed.
I have nine TTs at home, they have such a unique character & definitely still have an air of mystique about them from their Tibetan origins.
We have done very well with our TTs, winning BIS at Breed Club shows both in the UK & Europe. We have also won BOB at Crufts several times & once won both Best Dog & Best Bitch, it was a great day for us.
We have owned & bred several Champions. At present we are showing Ch Waterley Dressed to Impress, a dog that has won BOB at 2 World congress shows & BOB at Crufts 2008 & he is unbeaten in Europe.
I have judged in many countries in Europe, Scandinavia & also in Australia & New Zealand.
I am not interested in judging lots of breeds – just the ones that I am really interested in & admire
Dave Morrant
I have owned 10 Bearded Collies to date, the first Beardie arrived in 1987, 20 years ago, although I have owned dogs all my life, including a Border Collie, GSD, Tibetan Spaniels, Chow Chow and Sealyham Terrier.
However back to Beardies, I have owned 10 Beardies, 4 of which I have shown, 3 have gained their stud book number, I have only ever owned dogs, therefore not bred puppies.
I have been a Committee member of EBCA for 15 years, and served as EBCA representative on the breed council (proposed), currently Vice Chairman EBCA, and have been Show Manager for over 10 years.
I have attended seminars with Southern Counties BCC, EBCA and BCC and have run Exemption Shows, Quiz Nights etc. for Southern Beardie Aid.
I have judged Beardies since 1992 and have judged them on 10 occasions, most recently the National Working & Pastoral Breeds Open show in 2007.
Sylvia Newton (Sylvabrae)
Animals, dogs especially, have always been part of my life, having lived with crossbreeds,
Labradors, Alsatians, Spaniels and Retrievers. In the 1970’s I showed Afghans, moving on to
Beardies in the early 80’s. Our first show Beardie was Driftwood Beachmaster at Sylvabrae, but due to family health problems was only shown sparingly. Then came Coalacre Fascination at Sylvabrae - the bug took hold. Mike and I bred our first litter of Beardies in 1990 and have bred several dogs who have won CC’s, RCC’s and stud book numbers. I first judged Beardies in the late 80’s.
I have run a training class for all breeds for several years. I have been involved in welfare and re-education of dogs for about 20 years and I am Welfare Co-ordinator for the NEBCC. I am also treasurer of the NEBCC a post I have held since 1995.
Beardies zest for life should be an inspiration to us all!
Rodney Oldham (Towmena)
I first became interested in the dog world via obedience in early teens. In 1965 I purchased my first ‘show’ dog, a black Chow, from earnings working evenings & weekends at a local kennel. I took up full time employment in a Airedale kennel but realised how restrictive it was, so set about establishing my own kennel.
I have always been interested in other breeds and enjoy ‘ringside judging’ as so much can be learnt from observing others and dialogue with knowledgeable breeders. I first judged Beardie classes in 1996.
I have made up numerous champions and a Ch BIS winner. I have awarded CCs since 1976 and am currently approved to judge the Utility Group and Pastoral Groups plus 18 breeds across 3 groups.
Coming from a coated breed, whilst appreciating presentation, I feel that I am able to get under the coat to find the real dog and enjoy judging all the Collies.
Mrs Tricia Pool (Benastric)
I have owned Beardies since 1973 & showed since 1987 during which time gaining 2 C.C.s & 2 Res.C.C.s with Ch.Beardievale Village Gossip C D Ex. (the only UK Ch. Bearded Collie with a working trial qualification) & now own his great nephew. I have also shown Ch. Charncroft Copper Rose to 1 C.C., 1 Res.C.C. & a Working Group & now co- own her daughter who has a Res. C.C
I have been a committee member of the SCBCC for 6 years, 3 of which as Education Officer & during that time I introduced the SCBCC sheep herding tests.
I have attended a NEBCC Judges Training day & stewarded at 3 Ch. Shows & 2 club open shows, passed a KC exam on Requirements of a dog show judge & attended a KC seminar on Conformation & Movement.
I have been a Working Test Judge for many years & am on the show judging list of the SCBCC,BCC,NEBCC & the BCC of Scotland. & have Judged at the SCBCC & BCC of Scotland Open Shows.
A deep fascination with our breeds’ working heritage & the structure required to enable them to carry out that work led me to start judging in 1994 & I have now judged 234 dogs.
Mrs Evaline Poore (Bluelyn)
I first owned a Beardie in 1972 who I bought as a pet but became so interested in the breed that I purchased a bitch in 1974 from Shirley Holmes and showed her several times with great success. This gave some valuable experience in the ring.
I then bred her in 1977and kept a blue dog who gained his stud book number and I had a great time showing him. I went on to have more Beardies as the years went by. I am still showing and enjoying it very much.
I have judged my breed at Open show level since 1995 and I have judged a breed Club show in 2008 and it has been a privilege and pleasure to go over such a lovely breed.
I was also a member of S. West of England & S Wales Branch of the BCC from 1993 until 2009 when I stood down.
Sonya Saxby (Saxsonya)
I started showing at the very basic Exemption shows in 1974, where I learnt a lot about dogs and shows. Progression from there was to Open shows and in 1982 judged for the first time – Border Collies at Sharrow & District. Up to the present time I have awarded 10 sets of CC’s in Border Collies and 12 sets in Miniature Pinschers and judged Australian Silkies & Miniature Pinschers at Crufts. I have judged Australian Silky Terriers & Miniature Pinschers at Crufts and am scheduled to judge Border Collies at Crufts in 2011. I now award CC’s in 6 breeds. I have also judged in Finland, New Zealand and Southern Ireland. I am on most of the Toy Dog Club judging lists, on many of the Pastoral Group and some of the Working Group.
During my years of showing I was asked to campaign an Australian Silky Terrier, which is in the rare breeds. We managed to attain his Junior Warrant, Best Rare Breed in the UK and over 80 BOB’s at Championship shows.
In my adored Min Pins, I have made up 7 Champions, whilst also campaigning my Border Collies.
During nearly all this time I have been active with Border Collie Rescue and am at present the Northern Organiser for Border Collie & Sheepdog rescue. This is not the best side of dog ownership, but the dogs really need help and I have successfully re-homed on average 150 dogs per year.
When judging I always strive to give my honest opinion, but I must say that my greatest pleasure is in showing my dogs – I suppose that I am still very competitive.
Pamela Snook-Smith (Kanshim)
I first had a beardie in 1978 and from my first litter 2 dogs qaualified for Crufts including the dog I had kept. He also won several RCCs and Best in Shows. My family of Beardies grew, I only bred 5 litters, but was also involved in my dog being used as a stud dog. I concentrated on breeding well constructed Beardies with excellent fun temperaments with excellent hip scores.
I have been judging Beardies since mid 1980s at open show level and some other working breeds at sanction and some open shows. I have also been referee at SCBCC shows. Personal circumstances have slowed my show judging career.
As well as showing I thought obedience and agility was important for a working breed, so worked my dogs and have been a judge in these disciplines.
