Bearded Collie Club Fun Obedience Classes
Judge: Mrs Sue Nicholls-Ward (Bumbleridge)
I would like to thank all the exhibitors who braved the outside to work their obedience rounds whilst keeping their Beardies in tiptop condition for the showring inside. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and hope everyone enjoyed it and will continue with the obedience work, that shows that our Beardies really do have a brain. I would also like to say a special thanks to the committee members who kept plenty of hot drinks coming to us outside and a lovely lunch inside. Maureen Sale the Club’s secretary was invaluable to me, acting as my ring steward and walking each of the exhibitors through their rounds. I can only say again thank you so much Maureen.
In most of the classes the defining moments came from the stays. The love our Beardies have for us made it almost impossible for some of them to complete their stays, as they just wanted to be close, which then reflected in their placing. I was looking for consistency of position in the heel work rounds with clear sit positions when required and slight variation of this aided my markings.
Starters (4,1)
1st and Winner of the Sabin Trophy and the Marlanz Trophy for the highest percentage points - Salmon’s Ch. Potterdale Piper - Worked really well with solid stays, a good recall (only losing tiny points on his heel work and sit position)
2nd - Buswell’s Douglasdale Garanatus at Scotesham - This boy work a very similar round to the first, just losing out in the final seconds of his sit stay
3rd - Kneeshaw’s Adjucet Stand By Me - This lady’s heel work was the best of the class but her sit stay wasn’t her forte today.
Triers (7,3)
1st - Richards’ Highglade Holly Berry at Elemark - This lady earned first place with a very good recall and stays; her heel work being very similar to the second.
2nd - Buswell’s Douglasdale Garanatus at Scotesham - In this class this boy changed places with the winner from the Starters classes, by just having the edge on his heel work, but both had solid stays and similar recalls
3rd - Salmon’s Ch. Potterdale Piper
4th - Kneeshaw’s Adjucet Stand By Me - This young lady worked a very promising round, similarly to that in Starters, nailing the sit stay but the down stay earned her this place.
Hopefuls (4,2)
1st - Kneeshaw’s Adjucet Stand By Me This lady’s heel work was stronger on lead than off, particularly at fast pace; a good clean recall but got slightly confused when bringing the article back; solid sit stay and almost a complete down stay.
2nd - Buswell’s Corimist Soul Legend of Scotesham This gentleman’s heel work was consistent both on and off lead throughout the different paces; his recall almost as good as the first but the retrieve wasn’t his forte today.
Fliers (3,2)
1st and Winner of the Jeannie Cup for the highest points in the Fun Obedience classes - Kneeshaw’s Kiltondale Spring Blossom - This lady certainly wanted to show us her true potential with good rounds both on amd off lead, just losing slightly on her heel up from both her recall and retrieve; she went straight out on her send away but needed a firm reminder to go down. Looking forward to watching her work another time.
